Last year I uprooted from my native New York to London and immediately fell in love with the city. But forget culture shock – one of the hardest parts about moving across the pond was leaving my favorite stores behind. So while skimming my email full of press releases and sale reminders last week, I read something that made my mouse literally stop in its tracks. American hero brand Madewell is opening on the high street March 20th, exclusively at the brand new John Lewis at Westfield White City. All I can say is: THANK [email protected]#%K.
Didn’t know that , the high street queen of geek-chic, had another brand under its umbrella? Meet Madewell. Take it from an American – this is the brand that you’re missing in your life.
Madewell clothes bring you effortless 70s vibes with a modern twist and a line of leather bags and shoes that you can custom monogram. What I like about Madewell is from bandanas to jewellery, hats and - they hand you everything you need for the perfect distinctive outfit and they do it all well. Easy linen shirts, striped breton tops, and leather jackets are all on offer, but let’s get to the point. This is a denim brand first.

Everything you need to know is in their tagline “Good Days Start With Great Jeans.” Madewell is all about them, in every wash and cut you could possibly imagine. Plus, they offer their jean lengths in short, regular, and tall and as someone who is 5”2 I’d just like to say BLESS. They’re serious about their rinses too – they swear their jeans won’t fade or bag out – and have a higher-tier Japanese selvedge denim line Rivet & Thread. While I usually rely on designer denim for the thoughtful details and unique cuts I’m looking for, I can find them here without emptying my wallet. With prices roughly between £57-£150 for a pair of jeans, I’m not even that afraid for the safety of my paycheck.

You’ll most likely want to go to Madewell x John Lewis and buy it all, but below are a few of the essentials I’ll be adding to my shopping cart… You can thank me later.
